Extreme Smile Makeover
The phenomenon of appearance makeovers on reality television programming illustrates
just how important the smile is to the overall attractiveness of the face. Millions
of people all over the world tune into television shows such as Extreme Makeover
to watch a person transform him or herself into a more attractive individual. It’s
no accident that the majority of the reality television makeovers involve improving
the appearance of the person’s teeth using cosmetic dentistry and extreme smile
makeovers.
The smile is a person’s most prominent facial feature. Even the most beautiful of
faces is rendered immediately unappealing when a smile reveals stained, chipped,
missing, or crooked teeth. And an attractive smile is not just about vanity. The
smile is an important part of a first impression and often remembered long after
the person has left the room. It is vital that the smile be as aesthetically pleasing
as possible.
We understand the importance of a dazzling smile. Trusted by celebrity clientele,
including infamous movie stars whom frequent Melbourne, our team have been creating
extreme smile makeovers for years. You don’t have to be a celebrity to experience
our VIP service.
Our highly skilled dentists know that there is more to a smile than just straight
white teeth and healthy gums. Dr. John recognises that changing a smile will result
in a change to the entire appearance of the patient, so they make sure patients
are comfortable not only with their new smiles, but also with how their new smiles
“fit” with their other facial features. By using digital photography and 3-D imaging
technology, we create before and after images so you can see your extreme smile
makeover results before the procedure even begins!
During your initial cosmetic consultation at our Melbourne dental practice, we take
our time in evaluating not only your dental condition, but also your ultimate smile
desires and expectations. Possible dental procedures are thoroughly discussed with
you and chosen with your goals in mind.
Once the procedures are chosen and the plan is in place, you will typically begin
to see results as soon as the completion of the first cosmetic dentistry procedure!
The entire smile makeover is often completed in as little as two to three visits
to our Melbourne Cosmetic dentistry centre!
If you live in Melbourne or surrounding areas, your extreme smile makeover begins

Porcelain Veneers
Veneers are tooth shaped and coloured shells. They are custom made from porcelain
(ceramic), to help improve the shape, colour and appearance of your front teeth
and smile. They are bonded with “dental glue” on the front surface of your front
teeth.
There are many causes why you may require or desire veneers. Namely, it is to improve
the appearance of your smile and front teeth. But whatever the reason, veneers are
designed to straighten slightly crooked teeth and/or restore chipped or damaged
teeth and whiten your smile where whitening isn’t an option.
Invisalign Technology
If you want straight teeth without the embarrassment or inconvenience of traditional
braces, explore the Invisalign option with our expertly trained Invisalign dentists.
We expertly use Invisalign, a technologically advanced and proven method of straightening
teeth without the use of braces. The Invisalign procedure consists of sets of custom
designed aligners that move the teeth into a straightened position. Typically, eighteen
to thirty Invisalign aligners are crafted for each patient. Each aligner in the
series is worn continuously and removed only when you eat, drink, brush and floss.
After approximately two weeks, teeth move gradually into position for the next Invisalign
aligner.
When undergoing Invisalign, you will visit our Melbourne dental practice every four-six
weeks to ensure that the Invisalign process is advancing as predicted. The entire
Invisalign procedure takes approximately nine to fifteen months. The Invisalign
aligners are clear, comfortable, and virtually invisible when worn. Because the
Invisalign procedure is mapped out on a computer, you can see the anticipated results
before Invisalign treatment even begins!
If you live in Melbourne or surrounding areas, your invisalign experience begins

Dental Implants
Dental Implants are the modern way to replace missing teeth. The implant, which
is made of titanium, is fitted in bone where the tooth root would normally be. When
fully integrated to the bone, a post (or abutment) is attached to the implant and
a crown, bridge or denture is then placed over the abutment to replace the missing
tooth or teeth. Dental implants are fitted in-house at our Melbourne Dental clinic
by our Implantologist Dr Sean Hogan.
The big advantage of a single tooth implant over a bridge is that it can replace
the tooth without interfering with teeth on either side, unlike a bridge. Bridge
teeth are joined together and floss cannot be passed in between like natural teeth
or implant crowns.
If multiple teeth are missing then very often there are not enough teeth to provide
long term support to bridges anyway. Implants are therefore essential to support
multiple implant crowns or implant supported bridges.
If most or all of the teeth are missing then implant supported dentures may be an
option. For full denture wearers, retention is often a big problem as bone support
recedes. Even the best fitting dentures can feel loose. A full upper denture also
requires a large area over the palate to obtain suction which can interfere with
taste and the enjoyment of food. Implant supported dentures on the other hand are
firmly clipped in and do not require the palate to be covered for suction.
Dental implants are incorporated with other treatments such as crowns, bridges and
veneers as part of full smile makeovers or full mouth reconstructions. following
the same processes of smile design.
Dental Crowns
Cracking, root canals, lost fillings and other trauma can permanently damage a tooth’s
structure. When the surface of the tooth is a problem but the root is healthy, covering
the tooth with a dental crown may be the answer. Dental crowns cover the entire
tooth and are excellent alternatives to veneers and dentures. Natural-looking and
aesthetically pleasing, dental crowns are excellent for replacing individual missing
teeth or severely injured teeth while at the same time adding strength and stability
to the teeth. Contact our Melbourne Dental practice

Tooth Coloured Fillings
Traditional fillings often appear as unattractive, dark-coloured spots on the teeth.
Old-fashioned mercury fillings are not only unattractive, but may also be potentially
hazardous. These unappealing fillings can be removed and replaced with natural-looking
tooth-coloured fillings. Tooth-coloured fillings are made of a resin that is coloured
to match and blend into the surrounding tooth, rendering the filling virtually invisible.
Don’t live with unsightly, artificial looking silver fillings any longer.

TMJ Treatments
Temporomandibular joint disorders, commonly referred to as TMJ, affect the jaw joint
and can cause great pain for those who suffer from it. Individual symptoms vary
but include facial, ear, or jaw joint pain; a jaw that locks, doesn’t open fully,
or doesn’t open comfortably; a bite that feels uncomfortable, is continually changing,
or just doesn’t feel right to the patient; headaches; pain in the neck, back, or
shoulder; and swelling on the side of the face.
Patients with TMJ symptoms should not ignore them. TMJ can lead to very serious
dental and facial problems, including cracked, worn, and severely damaged teeth
and permanently damaged ligaments and tendons in and around the jaw. TMJ has been
known to cause debilitating headaches and muscle soreness. Although the cause of
TMJ is unknown and diagnosis is difficult, many treatments are available and range
from the simple, such as wearing a splint, to the extreme, such as surgery. If you
suffer from TMJ symptoms, there is help. For more information about TMJ diagnosis
and treatment, contact our Melbourne Dental practice.
